Do I need experience to go spearfishing?

Not for our guided reef trips on the East Cape — they’re beginner-friendly and include full instruction, loaner gear, and a guide in the water with you. The Bluewater Hunt is different: it’s for experienced freedivers only, and we’ll ask about your background before confirming.

Is gear included?

Yes. Wetsuit, weights, dive float, and a loaner speargun are included on guided trips, and all freediving gear is provided on the course. If you prefer to dive your own setup, bring it — just let us know.

Do we get in the water?

Reef spearfishing works structure close to shore for species like snapper and grouper — ideal for learning. Bluewater hunting in Baja is an offshore, open-water game for fast pelagics like dorado, wahoo, and yellowtail, and demands solid freediving experience.

Can a complete beginner take the freediving course?

Absolutely. Our freediving course in Los Cabos is built for all levels, including people who’ve never done a breath-hold dive. If you can swim, we can teach you — we start in a controlled setting and build up gradually.

Is spearfishing here sustainable and legal?

Yes. We hunt breath-hold only (no scuba or compressors), stay selective, and dive within CONAPESCA catch and size limits, closed seasons, and protected-species rules.

Can I keep or cook my catch?

You can. We’ll clean and fillet your catch dockside, and we can connect you with a partner restaurant that will cook it for you the same evening.
