We launch from Puerto Los Cabos marina in San José del Cabo and work the East Cape coast north through Santa Cruz de los Zacatitos, El Cardón and La Fortuna toward Boca de la Vinorama — which puts Cabo Pulmo National Park and the northern reefs within reach on a single day, in a way no Cabo San Lucas operator can match.
The shape of the day
What a day on the East Cape actually looks like
We start early, because the East Cape is calmest at first light. Most days we’re at the launch by 7am, gear loaded and briefed, and on the water shortly after. From Puerto Los Cabos marina in San José del Cabo the run north takes anywhere from twenty minutes to an hour depending on how far up the coast the conditions — and your chosen activity — pull us.
A typical half-day means two or three stops: a reef to snorkel, a point to fish or dive, a cove to swim and eat. Full days push further, often into the Cabo Pulmo corridor, with a beach break in the middle. We’re usually back at the dock by early afternoon, before the wind gets up.
Here’s the honest version: on the East Cape, the wind decides the itinerary. Some mornings the plan to run north gets rewritten into a sheltered inshore day the moment we clear the point — and that’s the right call, not a disappointment. A captain who knows this coast is worth more than a fixed schedule.
The core of it
Where we pick up
Six communities, north to south, with the real access notes — drive time to the launch, road condition, whether we collect from you or meet at the launch, and what’s directly offshore. Drive times are approximate and measured from Puerto Los Cabos marina in San José del Cabo
Boca de la Vinorama
≈ 50–70 min
Nine Palms / Punta
≈ 60–75 min
A legendary surf zone and one of the wilder pins on the coast. Access is graded dirt that turns rough on the final tracks to the point — 4WD is the sensible call, especially after rain. For now this is a meet-at-launch pin rather than a door collection. What’s offshore is special: rocky points, clear water, and a short run down to Cabo Pulmo’s reefs.
La Fortuna
≈ 45–60 min
A quieter residential stretch midway along the coast. The access road is graded dirt and generally fine in a normal car when it’s dry, rougher after a storm. We can arrange a collection here or have you meet us at the launch, whichever suits your day. The water directly offshore is a mix of sand and reef — versatile ground for a combined snorkel-and-spearfishing morning.
El Cardón
≈ 35–45 min
Closer to San José and easier to reach — mostly paved with graded dirt on the coastal approaches. We can pick up from most homes in El Cardón. Offshore you’ve got rocky reef points that hold fish through the year, which makes this a dependable launch when the wind lets us work the inshore ground rather than run north.
Playa Tortuga
≈ 25–30 min
A short hop up the coast from San José, named for the turtles that nest here. Access is paved for most of the way with a graded-dirt final stretch, and we can pick up from here without trouble. The inshore reef sits close to the beach, so it’s a fast start to the water — good for half-days and families who don’t want a long transfer.
Santa Cruz de los Zacatitos
≈ 15–20 min
The closest East Cape community to our launch and the easiest to serve — paved all the way, door pickup, no fuss. Zacatitos is where our standing-arrangement residents tend to live, precisely because we can be on the water together so quickly. Offshore, rocky coves give way fast to deeper water and the offshore banks beyond.
